Dongfang Hospital, the second clinical medical college of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine(BUCM), is a national "Double First-Class" university affiliate directly under the leadership of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine(NATCM). As a Tertiary A-Level  hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it demonstrates distinctive expertise in traditional Chinese medicine and exceptional strength in integrated approach to Chinese-Western medicine diagnosis and treatment. The hospital also provides comprehensive healthcare services supported by excellence in medical treatment, education , scientific research and international TCM exchanges.

The hospital holds multiple national designations, including one of China’s first TCM clinical research bases, a regional medical center outreach hospital, a national TCM inheritance and innovation center, a NATCM TCM rehabilitation center construction unit, a  national physician practical skills examination base for  physician qualification, a national clinical trial institution for new TCM drugs, an ethics review platform for TCM clinical research, a NATCM standard research and promotion base, a national stroke screening and prevention base , a base national TCM epidemic prevention and control base, a NATCM key TCM processing technology inheritance base, a Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation base for integrated Chinese-Western medicine in oncology and a Beijing international science and technology cooperation.base for chronic disease reserach  on Alzheimer's disease prevention and treatment.

Dongfang Hospital located in Beijing comprises one main campus and two additional clinical sites, with a total capacity of 1,377 authorized beds. 

The hospital maintains nine NATCM-designated key TCM disciplines: Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Gynecology, Cerebropathy, Integrated Chinese-Western Clinical Medicine, Pediatrics, Proctology, Peripheral Vascular Disease, and Rheumatology. Among these, TCM Cerebropathy and Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Gastroenterology are recognized as national key disciplines. 

Additional academic distinctions include: 

--Two BUCM "Double First-Class" disciplines: Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Oncology and TCM Otolaryngology

--Two national regional TCM diagnosis and treatment centers: Pediatrics and Cerebropathy

--Six national clinical key specialties: TCM Cerebropathy, Hepatology & Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Respiratory & Fever Diseases, Gynecology, and Nursing

--Fourteen NATCM key specialties, including Oncology, Peripheral Vascular Diseases, Nephrology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and Preventive Medicine

--Fourteen Beijing Municipal TCM Administration key specialties and diagnosis centers, including Emergency Medicine, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Massage, Proctology, and Clinical Pharmacy

In 2024, nine TCM specialty areas received NATCM designation for clinical excellence: TCM Cerebropathy, Pediatrics, Hepatology & Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation, Preventive Medicine, and Nursing. 

The Beijing Municipal TCM Administration awards the following five key specialties in the first batch, including: Gynecology (leading and surpassing class); Oncology, Pediatrics, Dermatology (surpassing class); Cardiology (construction class). The following five specialties were awarded in the second batch: Otolaryngology (leading and surpassing class); Hepatology and Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology (demonstration class), Respiratory department (surpassing class); Rheumatology department (catching up class).

The hospital's branches in Qinhuangdao and Zaozhuang have been selected as national regional medical center construction units in the fourth and fifth batches, respectively.

As of June 2024, Dongfang Hospital employs 1,738 staff members, including 354 senior professionals, 6 Master TCM Practitioners, 14 national preceptors for TCM academic inheritance, 2 chief scientists of national key R&D programs, and 169 graduate supervisors.

With strong roots in China and global vision, Dongfang Hospital partners with leading international universities in TCM education. Since 2005, it has collaborated with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on a dual bachelor's degree program in "TCM-Biology," graduating over 500 international students. The BUCM Russian TCM Center in St. Petersburg has become the first TCM hospital included in Russia's national healthcare system.

The hospital has received numerous honors, including National Advanced Collective in COVID-19 Prevention and Control, National Workers' Pioneer,  and National Public Hospital Party Building Demonstration Hospital.
