Ding Xia, vice president of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), recently led a delegation to Brazil. This visit marks BUCM's first official trip to a South American country, aligning with China's strategy of "TCM Going Global" amid strengthening China-Brazil relations. The delegation included Li Jun, deputy director of the Development Planning Department, and Wei Peng, deputy director of the International Cooperation Department.

The delegation visited the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, warmly received by Consul General Yu Peng and other officials. Vice President Ding introduced BUCM's development and international collaborations, highlighting efforts in standardizing and internationalizing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Consul General Yu praised BUCM's contributions to TCM's global exchange and offered guidance for future initiatives.

At the University of Campinas (Unicamp), the delegation met with Vice President Cláudia Morelli and other faculty members. An MOU was signed, institutionalizing cooperation between BUCM and Unicamp, witnessed by BUCM alumni Dr. Ma Peiling and Rodrigo. This agreement lays the groundwork for future collaboration in natural medicine research and chronic disease prevention.

During the visit, the BUCM South America Alumni Association was established, with Dr. Ma Peiling as its first president. The association connects 14 alumni in Brazil, enhancing TCM's local development. The delegation also engaged with the Brazilian Society of Chinese Medicine and visited local TCM clinics, noting high public acceptance of acupuncture.

Additionally, discussions at the University of São Paulo focused on cultural exchange initiatives, such as TCM cultural exhibitions.

The visit coincided with the Brazilian Senate's approval of a bill regulating acupuncture, supporting TCM's development in Brazil. BUCM aims to leverage this visit to continue promoting TCM's standardized and practical development in Brazil and South America.
